real_aurgathor Solar panels generally require very little maintenance in order to function, so yes, you can usually just let them be.
That is only the panels however there is much more involved in a PV farm which requires regular maintenance by properly trained and equipped technicians.
Here’s a few examples, panels and their connections must be inspected commonly with a thermal imagery to detect failing connectors, strings must be balance checked to determine if there are any failing panels which will reduce the output of the string, cable trays and the conductors they support must be checked to ensure strand tension is proper and there is no cable insulation chafing, combiners must be both visually checked and thermal imaged watching out for heat caused damage or insulation damage from surges, inverters must have their filters and fans cleaned on a regular basis, the same applies to BESS container HVAC systems, BESS strings like panels must be checked using thermal imagery to determine if there are any hot spots in both battery and buss-bar connections, batteries must be checked for balance to be on the watch for failing batteries, trackers need to cleaned and re lubricated, the same with tracker drive systems, the entire farm must be walked checking for washouts or storm water drainage blockage, landscaping and agricultural abatement requires regular attention which includes mowing either manual or robotic or by livestock, livestock needs regular vet visits to keep the animals healthy.
Then there are technicians they cannot just be equipped with just hand tools, they must be trained to work in compliance with specialized tools and must have a good understanding of NFPA 70 E and the 70 the Code as it relates to PV systems, they also may need to be provided with specialized PPE. And ongoing required OSHA training.
And of course there is documentation, lots of documentation.
With solar it is not about just placing and forgetting the system there is a lot of Capex involved with keeping the farm running at maximum capacity.
