Updated WinMerge

I had trouble getting this install to finish (probably just me) and unlike some times before with other apps where the install would finish if I unchecked the context menu option, even doing that uncheck here would not resolve the not finishing the install problem. I therefore just went with the portable version that installed without any problem but is currently available only with the last v2.16.52, the version released last month. While the official website does not currently have this latest update, I did somehow come across this new version on what it usually their official SourceForge download here.

If you can, please report whether unlike mine your install of the non-portable version went on without any issues. Thanks!

Thanks! My system has been upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 to 11 without a fresh install since–must have something to do with it! 😲 But I’ve done over the top installs keeping everything several times that has made it generally run amazingly well considering the lack of a fresh install, and even though it runs very well at this point I’ve decided that I will be trying one more over the top shortly, hoping that it will rectify this problem. I get my .iso from UUP Dump that allows you to have one that’s completely up to date, so it’s all up to date after the over the top (now takes hours to create when it used to be maybe 20 minutes). Aside from the fact that the difference between a fresh install and what I have now would not be major, the main reason that I have not done it is because I’m not sure that I’d live long enough to be able to recreate everything–apps, settings, files, etc!

Well, I did the over the top install, and it fixed the issue, with the WinMerge installer now finishing. Hopefully the other nuisances with the OS will be fixed as well, or at least improved. To preserve the fix, I’ve of course imaged the OS, even though I generally do that on a daily basis anyway. I figured I’d keep the portable anyway, just in case. Thanks again for responding, and it sure is nice to have a good outcome with Windows once in a while and that unfortunately is not always forthcoming!
