SeattleMatt73 on the buisness side they would just throw that into a 5 year contract, so about $383.33 a month on top of connectivity. We’ve long passed our contracts so plant investment is already paid for, but they still want about $710 for 50mb, $1040 for 500mb and I didn’t even get a price for 1 gig or 10 gig.
With crown castle it’s $1800/m for 10 gig and $1200 a month for 1 gig. That’s a 5 year term to pay for their build out as well. Curious with the Zayo acquisition in the works how that’s going to affect things. Oh subtract $100/m if it’s just internet. Those prices are for private managed nodes on a network. They can verify connectivity but it’s just layer 2 wide open… pass anything you want…. Giant flat spanned layer 2, standard frames, jumbo frames, 4095 vlans, whatever… it’s like a switchport across town at 1ms latency.
With Comcast we were getting 21-22ms latency for their ENS - basically virtual switch in the cloud… 1500mtu, could still do anything we want on it vlan / layer ⅔, etc…. Sites off the same hub, 1-3ms, but going from central Pennsylvania to Philadelphia for example 21ms was the lowest latency I’ve ever seen. I have a crown castle link that’s almost 210,000 ft according to the patch panel and it’s sub 1ms. Can’t ever get that with Comcast.
Then Comcast EDI- well that depends. In the Philadelphia market I get 5 to 7ms ping to 1.1.1.1 for example. But in Central PA I was getting 17-20ms for the same thing. Moved those sites to docsis since there was NO benefit , and through the CBR1 or CBR2 business 3.1 gateway we only pick up about 8 to 9 ms on top of that, so typical 27-30ms in central pa. Docsis in Philly burbs is around 15-17ms.
Around $200 a month we can get 300/300 Comcast Business docsis with a phone line, OR almost $800 after Ciena switch rental for 50/50 fiber. I have some sites on 500/300 docsis with two phone lines and TV for around $350/m.
In the datacenter where Comcast already has a presence, my rep quoted me:

Datacenter remote hands would just run a SM fiber from
Comcast’s cage to ours, and then Comcast would install a Ciena metro Ethernet switch. We declined and went with the datacenters own “blended” internet which they manage two routers in HSRP and upstream BGP with multiple carriers. Let them do the load balancing and redundancy.
I think Comcast’s fiber pricing is a little rich. Their techs are real nice though and I’ve gotten to know them, usually the same one or two guys that show up. They have some slick equipment and are good at what they do when they need to troubleshoot an outage. They usually have a lot of interesting insider info, WAY more than a docsis tech.
