InternetJeff broknsymetry What is truly amazing though is that it will remain a major hurricane at that far north latitude and for that length of time. It happens. I recall reading about a Cat 3 that hit the British Isles in the 1960s. Edit: Hurricane Debbie 1961. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Debbie_(1961)
Splitpair broknsymetry What is truly amazing though is that it will remain a major hurricane at that far north latitude and for that length of time. As long it is traveling up the Gulf Stream there will be plenty of energy to live on.
Splitpair Astyanax I think it’s time to say end our coverage of Erin and say good-bye. Not so sure it is still traveling West at 15 on the 20th
Astyanax We’re receiving an unexpected visitor due to the coming storm! https://www.floridatoday.com/story/money/business/2025/08/15/royal-caribbean-ship-detouring-to-port-canaveral-to-avoid-path-of-erin/85673922007/ Welcome and spend money here instead and pay more of our taxes for us! 😄
Splitpair Beachie Now, I don’t know I don’t know I don’t know where I’m-a gonna go When the hurricane blow
Astyanax Somewhat-Reticent Somewhat-Reticent Wasn’t that Back-in-the-Day of Global-Cooling ⁉️ Actually I think that was a thing ten years later. 🙂 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_cooling
Astyanax Somewhat-Reticent At sea, sometimes it’s advantageous to be submersible. Then you have benthic storms you have to worry about if you go deep enough. https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1029/2024JC020963
Heat84 Dks01 Erin’s impact on the Canadian Maritimes is worth watching. She’ll probably just make the surfers happy like she’ll just be doing down here. Are there any surfers in Canada?
Somewhat-Reticent Astyanax Ah. ’61 - missed ’65 by only 4 years. Astyanax Hopefully not at the same time as hurricanes above. Splitpair Or river surfers?
HooRU I am grateful this is staying out to sea, but I hope no vessels are harmed. I hope no one is in the water trying to survive.
Dks01 Heat84 Are there any surfers in Canada? We surf in the middle of winter. My doctor used to surf in the winter and travel to Nova Scotia for that.
Splitpair It’s beginning to look like NC may get some serious weather out of Erin. It has finally moved up to 22N but is three days late in getting there, as such it has moved much closer to the US than it was forecasted to be.
