Just got my cable modem (CBN CD8000) connected and am new to this bridge mode setup. With Wireshark on my laptop, trying to figure out how things will work. OOB, when I 1st got the modem and was waiting for the cable install, I saw on it I could (and did) connect to it directly from Ethernet on my laptop, when I assigned my I/F to be static 192.160.100.42, modem being reacheable at 192.168.100.1. Then when I connected the cable to it, the power, uplink and downlink lights became ON steady, but orange INTERNET light. I presume, based on some input from a friend at the ISP that based on my modem’s MAC address, and powering off and on a few times, it was able to authenticate somewhere and maybe pick up specific config info? Because eventually, the internet light did turn green solid, and at that point I forget if I put my laptop back into DHCP mode or left it as static, but anyway, speedtest showed me my 400/50 rate I had signed up for.
My ultimate plan is to set up a PC with linux-based, 2-NICs open FW software, then connect a mesh of GRANDSTREAM APs (combination of GWN 7600, 7600LRs, 7610 and 7664) which I have to the thing and go from there.
Has anyone had experience with a similar “deployment”?
