I see others have had the same experience, sadly. In response to another student who complained, suggesting that he be permitted to get a usable desk from an empty room, one professor said, “I’m not paid to move furniture, and I can’t give you permission to do it either”. We were left with the choice of writing the exam or accepting a grade of 0 for that part of the course. The few of us ended up writing, hunched over to one side for the duration, as there wasn’t a single appropriate desk in the assigned room.
That also doesn’t consider the fact that some courses were held in an auditorium, where, of course, the only retractable writing slabs were on the right.
