I take it the boost feature is just giving QoS priority to a certain device? For all traffic? Isn’t there a basic QoS already built into the gateway’s firmware, just not user customizable?

The Wi-Fi Extender feature is probably similar to the xFi Complete Wi-Fi assessment feature which looks at the RSSI values of the connected devices to determine eligibility.

Storm Ready Wi-Fi is no longer available for $7 a month or $252 up front and is instead bundled in with Wi-Fi Pro? Looks like the “Battery Backup is an additional $60 charge”. So the Storm Ready Wi-Fi unit is automatically included for $15 a month and the battery for it is an additional $60? Both of these used to be offered together.

$15 a month. Adds the gateway rental fee back in if you currently have xFi Complete for free as part of a promotion. Does this replace the $15 gateway charge? Seems kind of weird if you have to add both xFi Complete (for unlimited data) and X-Pro.

Did Comcast see AT&T All-Fi Pro and decide that they wanted a bite? Here is an idea: offer the XB10 with Wi-Fi 7 to X-Pro customers?? Lol, I won’t give them any more ideas. At least L4S is free!

And therein lies the mess. Imagine that phone call or reddit messages to figure that one out. I mean it is interesting, and may in well after all is said and done be only a few more bucks a month.

But I’ll just say….those pods suck.

Down here in S. Florida, even during an active hurricane, my AT&T wireless service (cellular) continued to work and during those times, AT&T usually suspends hotspot cap limits (although I have 60GB per line, so 120GB of hotspot). I guess Storm Ready WiFi might be worth it for those that are not that techy.

I got one free and it lasted 13 months and crapped out plus during that 13 months it was all messed up and Support was non existent.

Which are the majority of customers. And many of those customers just want to deal with one company and get one bill.

It is sort of like building your own PC, as while it is possible to get a solution more tailored to your specific needs at a cheaper price than buying a pre-built system, a lot of people just go to Best Buy and are sufficiently happy with what they end up with (once, and done).

A battery power station is a more versatile solution.

Battery backup is only good if the local node has power, I have several power stations that can run my network and they all last longer than the battery backup on the local node. Every time we have a long outage the node goes down after 5 to 6 hours. Many times the power is back on at my house and the internet is still out until power is restored to the street where the node is.

I have a StormReady Wi-Fi unit and battery from when they sold them outright. Deciding whether to put it back in service or purchase an Xfi Pod because the back of my house is a dead spot and I want to install a camera on the garage once I get the driveway.

I have an Orbi modem but that only goes up to 960 Mbps and I have the Gig plan because I am now a heavy gamer since I bought a PS5 which is why I went with the Comcast gateway. I am not buying any more modems because I am going to wait and see if fiber becomes available but fiber construction seems to be stalled. Xfi pods are $119 each. Modems and routers can set me back $500 or more. I have the deal where the modem is included for the next five years.

I also think Comcast has quietly eliminated unlimited data in the Northeast. But they might eliminate caps in the future under the threat of competition. More and more markets are getting fiber. I never thought we would have fiber here in town in my lifetime. I guessed wrong. FiOS might be a third option according to some VZ techs in the area.

So the Storm Ready device, now officially known as the Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender, supports Ethernet backhaul, as do the Gen2 xFi Pods (now officially known as Xfinity WiFi Extenders). Both are WiFi 6 devices, and can support WiFi speeds of around 500Mbps under ideal conditions. If you can manage to route a high quality Cat6 Ethernet cable from your preferably XB8 (XB7 at the minimum), to the Pro WiFi Extender, you can realistically see those speeds, provided your devices can handle it, your plan supports it, and your modem is getting the proper speeds from Xfinity. No WiFi Extenders instead of the Pro WiFi Extender required. You could create a network combining both, if necessary, but that’s a larger project.
