px_eliezer_ No! Haven’t you read any IT horror user stories? If you let one user have a new shiny toy because it “broke”, the next day you will have more users with devices that also “broke” (having been thrown down stairs, intentionally run over, drilled into and so on).
For the girl with the burn garments, it is an upgrade to the older device and thanks to planned obsolescence will be outdated and useless before the current model reaches that stage; good balance of customer service and corporate interests. At least google inc didn’t blame her for using a non-google charger, that surprised me, often companies grap the first out they can and shift all blame to the consumer.
The best advice is to not charge your device on a bed, clothing, soft furniture, piles of stuffed toys and other materials that tend to trap heat and insulate the phone.
