New York City Was Just Ranked the Happiest in the United States

OMG! The greatest, yes, but the happiest??? For me, it was the loneliest place on Earth. Nobody will do so much as even talk to you! My social life was infinitely better after I moved at 25 y.o. to California, but I would say that the quality of the people were among the highest, despite the difficulty one has connecting.

The New York experience depends on who you talk to and because it’s such a densely populated city, you could have people in the same neighborhood with different experiences. Back in my early 20s I lived there for a while and I absolutely loved it, there was so much to do, so much culture, so many activities. But the problem is a lot of those activities and events are hiding behind concrete so you have no idea it exists if you’re not in it and I was fortunate that I was in a relationship with a woman who introduced me to all this activity.

Probably because it’s more outside, activities are more visible than the New York experience and there’s a hell of a lot more sun to bask in so everyone is happier. I’m of the opinion that New York City has a hard shell exterior you have to crack while California was softer and warmer and the outside.

I’m surprised. Having spent a lot of time in Vancouver and speaking with friends in Vancouver, everyone loves areas outside of Vancouver more than they love Vancouver. “I love Vancouver because it’s so close to Deep Cove!” or “I love Vancouver because it’s so close to Bowen Island, the hiking is great!” I have friends who snowboard at Whistler every winter and say how much they love Vancouver but all their stories are about Whistler…

It says that Newark NJ and Jersey City NJ have some of the lowest depression rates in the country—not credible.

Folks, I’m a Jersey guy, but anytime that New Jersey comes up ranked right behind Hawaii, it’s laughable.

Not too surprised Minneapolis, MN was on the list. I used to live in St Paul for a few years, there was always something to do. The state fair was fun, although packed like sardines, with 10,000 or more people there. Verizon, Sprint and others had to bring in mobile cell towers with satellite backhaul due to congestion.
