Apple TV With Roku TV

A little background. I had an old 32” Element TV mounted on the wall in my home office that finally died. It as hooked to my Apple TV. I’m looking to replace it with a Roku TV, but still want to primarily use the Apple TV since it already has all my apps and subscriptions configured. We have another Roku TV in the bedroom that’s just hooked to my guest WiFi (no separate Apple TV). I don’t want it connected to my main network.

What I’m looking to do is connect the new Roku to the Apple TV and also to my guest WiFi. I’m thinking I’d select the HDMI port I connect to the Apple TV for most things. What I’m unsure of is what input would I use on the off chance I wanted to watch one of the Roku channels. Any thoughts?

Most Roku apps are also on Apple TV. The Roku Channel is one that isn’t, so far. For that, you would just go to the TV’s app mode and choose that instead.

Also, if your are NOT subscribed through Apple but DIRECT with the services, then you can use the Roku apps and just log in. Your info will work fine. I have all 4 major devices (Roku, Fire TV, Google TV, Apple TV), and can easily switch between them. Each has plusses and minuses in app support and features.

Andyross Most of the apps are direct with Apple. So much easier that way.

It’s possible they could work, depending on how the login works. I think some people who subscribe through Roku can still log in on other devices. Possibly the same ematas your Apple account. Try logging in to the web sites. If you can then you can use non-Apple devices.

Also, billing through a 3rd party may be convenient for you, until there is a billing problem. Plus I would guess Apple gets a big chunk of that fee, leaving less for the service. I have heard of some subscriptions through Apple costing more because they up it to cover the “Apple Tax.”

Any of the HDMI inputs should work. Roku TVs have a setting for which input is the default at power on - and powering on a connected device should select it anyway through HDMI CEC. But if you hit the ‘home’ button on the roku remote you go back to its own screen where you can select native apps.
