Partly because of some controversies in the recent past, World Boxing announced mandatory chromosome based sex testing for all female athletes. “The introduction of mandatory testing will be part of a new policy on ‘Sex, Age and Weight’ to ensure the safety of all participants and deliver a competitive level playing field for men and women,” World Boxing wrote in a statement. Chromosome testing was common in Olympic sports during the 20th century, but was largely abandoned in the 1990s because of numerous ambiguities that couldn’t be easily resolved by the tests, collectively known as differences in sex development (DSD).

John Oliver did a pretty solid takedown of transphobia in sports as well linking instances where some of the complaints where against biological women from other biological women that were defeated in events. It’s a complicated topic.

real_aurgathor I do not know anything about competitive poker, but in chess there are a separate female tournaments and a championship only for females.

Thanks will have to look into that more, but that was one quick thing off the top of my head I could think of.

ugly95 Is the implication here that a bunch of dudes are just running around pretending they are women so that they can win athletic competitions? Like I got cut from a mens hockey team so I’ll decide to be a woman so I can make it in the grand stage that is competitive women’s hockey?

These aren’t people gaming the system for a competitive advantage.

How do you know that with such certainty? Or if even one is doing that? Do these trans winners of female competitions not think maybe they had an advantage because of their former-male physiology?

Words have objective meanings.

Outside of some uncommon birth anomalies, certain physical biological characteristics are inconsistent with an arbitrarily claimed gender based upon individual preference. If an individual identifies in contrast to basic biological facts, that is arbitrary. Especially when it’s “based upon individual judgment or preference”. It would be the same if someone identified as a different age, race, or species

Just like for “challenged” ( formerly “handicapped” ) competitors.
