The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Code Red Air Quality Action Day for Fine Particulates, from midnight tonight to midnight EDT Thursday night.

Not bad out here in corn & bean country, but I see AQI is
brutal elsewhere.

Hot & muggy, just finished tending the garden after a conference call. Dug out a burger patty and brioche bun and sliced squash for grilling. Beer chilling, Bluetooth speaker charged up for the grill sittin’. Lovely bride is shopping and having dinner with her mom, so I’m being a hermit this evening.

I love Canada but prefer to go visit it rather than have in air lifted to me in microscopic pieces.

I normally walk for about an hour or so on a daily basis.This is the first time ever that I stayed indoors due to poor air quality. I’m really, really hoping that the thunderstorms forecast here for Saturday come through to dampen this down.

On the plus side (the only thing I can think of) - At least it’s all natural causes and not man-made toxic chemicals. Not great, but it could be much worse.

Yeah, today was kind of gross. A haze all day, and going outside feels like you’re inhaling over a campfire.

For some reason, the guy who lives a few houses over, who always has an overgrown yard, decided today was the day to do yard work for the first time in three weeks. I couldn’t stand to be outside for more than 10 minutes.

Guy54435 How are the calculating the AQI or are they just taking the reading of the highest pollutant (which would be PM 25 today)?

Ontario (province of Canada) has a AQHI scale that goes from 1 to 10+ (anything higher than a ten is rated as a 10 plus) which might be generally informative but useless as to how much crap is blowing around with the wind. While they do track five other pollutant categories (depending on location) and it will give you the exact reading for each pollutant by hour, but overall their indicator is more of a “No Kidding /s” in use and design and as such redundant.
Pm25 measurement outside here tonight was 520 (Ikea grade sensor).

It’s been hazy and weird here in the Niagara Region this week, and of course that orange filter day, but it hasn’t had an impact on my breathing. We can smell it at times.
