I will admit that M*A*S*H is one of the few shows that I can watch endlessly, no matter how many times I’ve seen a particular episode. I think it’s one of the absolute best shows in the history of television; it is a truly rare thing to assemble a cast that delivers such quality so consistently throughout the show’s entire run.
I thought Swit’s character was one of the stand-outs, especially after Henry Blake (McLean Stevenson) left. The character really came alive after Swit insisted on more freedom in making her into a real, believable woman, rather than just the target of sexist jokes. In a number of respects, I found her portrayal endlessly relatable.
R.I.P., Ms. Swit; your skill will be missed, and the characters you brought to life will be remembered and continue to move viewers for a long time to come.
