lesmikesell Either the Xb7 has enough strength on 5Ghz or it is switching more transparently because everything works without those issues.
(Advanced) WiFi gateways can strongly suggest using 5GHz in preference to 2.4GHz (sometimes called band steering). I seem to recall that when the XB3 was new and shiny (over a decade ago now) someone reported that at initial entry to service the XB3 did not support/enable band steering, although later updates apparently supported it (or the first reporter did not know how to configure it, which is also entirely possible).
Also don’t discount changes in your laptop (hardware/software/firmware), which may also impact band steering and WIFI capabilities.
