Donoreo As always I’m sure there’s a lot at play - I know personally a lot of folks in my “circle” did a lot of hurry up buying on some bigger purchases earlier in the year than they had originally planned because of fears that all the tariff nonsense was going to cause unusual price increases and out of hand inflation. One of my sons classmates in his Piano class got a brand new digital Yamaha Piano from his parents in March - they weren’t planning on buying it for him until Christmas but they were afraid the $2500 would be $3500 if our currency fell or there were tariffs on the import of it, etc. so they went ahead and got it early. My brother went and bought a new aluminum fishing boat in late February rather than waiting until May because of worries about the tariffs on aluminum, steel, imports, etc (Mercury Marine outboards come in from the US - the 25HP 4 stroke electric start outboard motor was something like $5500 Cdn - if that got hit with a 25% tariff it would be more like $7000).
That said, it’ll be interesting to see how Q2 performs now that tariff situation seems at least stable currently - doesn’t look like we’ll be getting hit with new massive change tariffs internally or externally, nor are any of the current ones appearing to be going away any time soon… we’re probably status quo now through the next quarter or two.
