Wifi 6 from Modem Update?

I have an XB7 modem. About three days ago, my phone’s wifi icon had a little 6 beside it. When I turned on my HyperCube, which is on my 2.4 GHz wifi, it was off the network, so I had to unplug/replug to get it back on. Then, my computer’s wifi turned itself off. When I turned it back on, it popped up an announcement that I now had access to wifi 6. I checked my system logs and they showed no updates on my machine, so I’m thinking it was from a firmware update on my XB7. Does that sound right?

Looking at the specs it does state it supports WiFi6.

The XB7 has always supported WiFi 6. If there was a change in WiFi it wasn’t the XB7.

WiFi 6 (802.11ax) is not WiFi 6E. WiFi 6E includes 6GHz, while WiFi 6 is only 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Just to clarify for anyone ending up here from a good ol Google search.

Devious The only thing that really interests me about WiFi 7 is MLO. But Ive heard it can be hit more miss, especially on early WiFi 7 routers/Clients. Even then, the router is in my bed room and the devices that would benefits from MLO are all wired to my network. All other devices work fine with WIFi 5 currently.

No experience yet, but I expect it to be much better at managing devices that move around from fringe areas where only the 2.4Ghz band works and close to the router where 5 and 6 Ghz kicks in. My XB7 is ‘OK’ for my home but a couple of rooms are just barely OK. If I bought anything now I’d pay extra for a three band wifi 7 mesh that I’d expect to last a while.

lesmikesell Yeah but I’ve heard that MLO on some doesnt work for all 3 bands. Thats the issue, not everything necessarily works as intended. Also read that some WiFi 7 features might be “Optional”. So you will have to do lots of research.
