Depends on how it is implemented, if it is a simple toggle on the backend, then sure, maybe.
It may also be toggleable in the Xfinity app sometime in the future.
So if you live in a Wi-Fi Ready Apartment/Unit and want to use your own router/firewall, then you will keep your Xfinity Gateway. (You can unplug it and store it away for safe keeping). (A tech visit required to swap though).
If you live in a standard residence or Non Wi-Fi Ready Apartment/Residence (i.e. no Xfinity Gateway was pre-installed when you moved in), then you will need to return your Xfinity Gateway to avoid non-returned equipment charges.
Swapping back to an Xfinity Gateway also requires you to contact support, in both cases. (Wi-Fi Ready units need a tech to come out). Your account (EPON Xfinity Internet) can be set to either the Xfinity Gateway as the Internet/Router device, or your own router. But not both at the same time, or even just allowing the Gateway at all times, for easier swaps back to Xfinity router hardware.
