Peavey Mart may close all locations

They announced last week they were going to close 22 stores, but now it may be all of them.
"Sources have confirmed to Retail Insider that Peavey Mart, a Canadian retail chain known for its agricultural supplies, hardware, and home improvement products, is closing all of its stores nationwide. Liquidation sales began on the weekend. The store closures include the flagship location in Red Deer, Alberta, where the company’s headquarters are also based. This marks a significant and surprising turn of events for a company with deep roots in Canadian retail, dating back to its establishment in Winnipeg in 1967."

They purchased TSC stores in Ontario in 2016 which expanded them a lot. In 2020 they took over Ace Hardware brands from Rona, but that ended Dec 31.

Wow, that escalated quickly from shuttering a few stores to the entire organization going down the tubes. London has a distribution point for the company, sort of a trucking terminal warehouse operation with what appears to be a sizable office staff on the East side. I have seen less activity over the past few months, perhaps all part of the imploding process.

Is Ace hardware still around in Canada, if so who owns/runs it?

Another great store bites the dust. I was always a great place to find odd parts one might need. Princess auto is the only other store left that is remotely like them.

LondonDave they were the farm go to store. Really friendly and knowledgeable. They were five minutes from home. Princess Auto is filled with Chinese-made junk and is on the other side of the city.

Never noticed them. They took over all the TSC locations in KW around 2021 by the looks of it. Since I never went to TSC I never noticed the change.

I'll miss them. I didn't shop there often but did go there for certain things.

From the news articles it looks like they expanded too fast, expanded too much to the east from their western base, and took on too much debt.

The twin evils of CV (Corona Virus and Capitalist Vultures) were the final straw.

I rarely went to one but the odd time I needed something obscure that Home Depot or Rona wouldn't stock I would drive out to Bowmanville.

I think I went in there once, on my way to or from Port Hope. That location went from a Co-Op store to a TSC to a Peavy over the years.

I think there is a gap now for this market of farm related items.
