The new ownership group, led by Tim Gu, a veteran in Canadian retail and manufacturing, aims to deepen MEC’s local manufacturing footprint and focus on community connection, sustainability, and access to nature. This shift in ownership is seen as a positive move by customers, who want to support Canadian companies. I have always found MEC a bit on the high side pricewise, but they do tend to carry higher end brands. Sales are often really good though.

Nice, but will it ever be a co-op again?

IMHO I think its more a case of you get what you pay for, canadian tires sells outdoor stuff and while some of it is functional and might last it’s typically bulky, poorly made (and marked up in price).

As a cyclists you get that a CT Supercycle probably isn’t the bike for you, same goes for their other products.
