Thane_Bitter It does seem to be a pretty strange time to deploy an update on a piece of core network equipment. I thought they generally did these things between 2:00 and 6:00 (in the morning).
From the few accounts I’ve heard, everything started falling apart around 9:20 in the Montreal area. From the notifications I received, my brother’s EBOX fibre went down at exactly 9:20, and stayed that way until nearly 11:00. Even then, it didn’t stay up, and re-establishing the connection was slower than usual, with the occasional PPPoE authentication failure, as well as other retries recorded.
For all of the criticism levelled at Rogers when it was their turn, it doesn’t look like Bell’s network is structured for much better resilience. There were also some problems with mobile services and mobile Internet. I guess, in spite of the lessons from the Rogers disaster, the bean-counters won again, when it comes to network structure.
