HFB1217 The problem with this case is that it was settled rather than adjudicated which means there’s very little to stop them from doing it again outside of fines, fines that represent a small portion of profit.
Your average person believes that turning off geolocation tracking and an incognito window stops Google and others from tracking their online activities but little do they know that Google and others have access to other means to track you.
Sure, they won’t track you and how you interact with Google Maps, Google Search, or Weather but that doesn’t mean they won’t track your IP, that they they won’t track your YouTube interactions, and it certainly allows them to share that information with people who are paying them to share it.
I always have people say to me, “I’ve turned off all the location tracking with Google AND browsed the internet with an incognito tab but my wife is seeing topics I’m googling at night on her Facebook, on her personal phone… at work!?!?”
Civilization really needs to spend more time investigating that…
