Rock_cake NEW ORLEANS (AP) — At least a dozen law enforcement agencies are searching Saturday for seven of the 10 men who broke out of a New Orleans jail by fleeing through a hole behind a toilet and scaling a wall. A law enforcement photograph obtained by The Associated Press shows the opening through which the men escaped. Above the hole are scrawled messages that include “To Easy LoL” with an arrow pointing at the gap. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2025/05/16/new-orleans-jail-inmate-escape/ AP story if ya’ll are paywalled: https://apnews.com/article/new-orleans-jail-escape-toilet-559f5cfbf7b9f66dfae89454e9610f2e +++++++++++ Yeah…I think someone’s getting fired. 🙂 They may wanna check the beaches in Zihuatanejo, Mexico. Ask for Andy Dufresne ‘Peter Stevens’
AMDUSER Somewhat-Reticent No budget for replacing locks… I’m sure they came up with the $$$ after this happened. They were looking at replacing the locks. The picture essentially shows they moved the toilet and had used what looks like drywall for walls. Should be brick / or poured concrete with a small hole for the water line. They might want to harden that jail.
HooRU I hope the 7 don’t commit more murders, but it’s quite likely they will. LA is like many states in the South, broke and with poor tax bases, so many are poor and the quality of life so bad.
Rock_cake One down, six to go… The capture of Gary C. Price, 21, means six inmates are still at large and the subjects of a hunt by more than 200 law enforcement personnel: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/fourth-new-orleans-jail-escapee-captured-manhunt-6-others-continues-rcna207846
JRB-Ware Hopefully the rest of the crew on the loose will be captured soon. Every minute they are at large is a chance for them to hurt or kill someone.
Somewhat-Reticent 3 workers off w/o pay, one being charged for complicity - under duress. Some escapees may not (yet) be convicts. Every moment a human is alive is a chance to do good - or not. Let’s pray they avoid adding more troubles.
Rock_cake Well…it’s been quite a while, but the last one has been rounded up and captured: https://apnews.com/article/derrick-groves-escaped-inmate-captured-new-orleans-acf051c59c53ac088861a7aa64a8195c ATLANTA (AP) — A monthslong search for the only Louisiana inmate still on the run after an audacious May jailbreak ended Wednesday when authorities say they found him hiding in a crawl space beneath an Atlanta home, bringing the last of the 10 escapees into custody… So I guess you can say he was ‘under house’ arrest? (I’ll just go now!)
Rock_cake Somewhat-Reticent “Derrick Groves, 28, was convicted of murder and facing a possible life sentence before the inmates escaped through a hole behind a toilet in a New Orleans jail…” He’s the only one that articles specifies conviction, the others were "in jail awaiting sentences or trials over violent crimes, including murder…'
