[deleted] It’s always very easy to criticise them without having all of the facts, or understanding the physical nature of the work. Over here, they typically have an entire block’s worth of mail hung from their shoulders, small packages included. For each couple of addresses, they have to climb about fifteen concrete steps, put the right mail into the right box, then back to the steps, down to the sidewalk, another few metres over, and repeat.
For packages with a signature required, they have to ring and wait. If no one is answers, the package gets tagged, and goes back into the bag, and they have to carry it until the end of the block. Only then do they go back to the vehicle to take on the next bunch of mail and packages.
All of that is without considering weather, icy stairs, dogs, angry recipients, etc. They may not be brain surgeons, but to say that they don’t deserve a fair salary for the still-essential, physical service that they provide is nonsensical.
Lastly, I’d be very surprised if you could find even one brain surgeon who would even get out of bed in the morning for $50/hr.
