It would appear you have either never watched the play or bothered to learn the actual story. It was all televised. The connection the story has with the current president is that Roy Cohn was chief counsel to Senator Joe McCarthy during the Army–McCarthy hearings in 1954. Cohn had been assisting McCarthy’s investigations of suspected communists. Cohn went on to practice law in New York, becoming a “fixer”, lawyer and mentor to the current president. He was later disbarred.
The importance of the story is that is shows what a free press actually looks like. It takes courage, integrity and devotion the facts, not lies, half-truths and slander. Edward R. Murrow had all of the former, in the face of the latter. Perhaps there are no parallels to today’s events. But at the very least, “Those who forget the past are destined to repeat it.”
