Stembolt I have no idea why an energy provider would even ask for, much less store, things like:
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license number
- Social Insurance Number
- Bank account numbers (for some customers)
In general, none of that is necessary to provide a residential customer with electrical service, and storing it is only an invitation to the baddies to try getting at it. If companies would stop doing that, and keeping it all in an active database (even details of people who haven’t been customers in years), we’d all be better off.
