On my budget and how expensive food is here, I shop at Aldi’s. It is a Godsend, bu-ut…

Their breads are awful and they do lack some important ingredients. I’ve emailed them in the past for suggestions and they acted on it, but now it seems contact us doesn’t work. I want hard rolls.

You have done a pet peeve of mine: added an ’s onto a company name that does not use it. The name is Aldi. There was a rumour Aldi was going to expand into Canada, but that seems to have died. Take a look at the Wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aldi it is interesting how there are two companies. One of them also owns Trader Joe’s (which does have an ’s).

Ha, the same thing here (Wash DC area) for Ledo Pizza, everyone I talk to calls it Ledo’s (!)

When I say something (which I gave up long ago) she’d always say “Well what about Macy’s”

Indeed, it’s nNot just Aldi ( none here ) .
Bread quality seems to be constantly getting cheaper.
Harder to find some that tastes like bread.
As if some pastry chef is in vogue, and all should be like cake or muffin.

You might try their ciabatta rolls. I split and toast them when grilling burgers or making slaw dogs. They also are good as a roll with spaghetti. I lightly butter each half then sprinkle grated Parm on them then put them under the broiler of my toaster oven. They keep pretty well in the freezer.

Walmart also has similar ciabatta rolls at roughly the same price.

It also is a Southern thang. I’ll say Walmart, but then say Kroger’s - I think it is all in the sound of it, just rolls of the tongue.

Another point is that Walmart was started by Sam Walton not a person named Sam Walmart. Whereas Kroger was begun by Barney Kroger so Kroger’s makes more sense.

Their regular sliced bread is a bit too fluffy for me, but their cinnamon rolls rock. 😄

egeezer Yes, they are good. They taste better than the one from Walmart. The last time I bought some from Walmart, there was quite a bit of flour not mixed in. 🙁 That was the last time I bought them from Walmart.

Last time there I got BBQ Brisket, what a treat. It’s not great, but it’s reasonably good.

I wrote to them about needing hard rolls.

I prefer S. Rosen’s 100% Whole Wheat, and their Kaiser Buns and Hot Dog buns (with poppy seeds). But I think it’s mainly a Chicago area bakery.

Oh. We HAD a great bakery here im Waterbury, Meliti’s, but they shut down.

Aldi sucks. Terrible selection. Little variety. Went in with my wife for the first time at this place and after five minutes she said come on we’re out of here. Place has recently shut down and a new Kroger in its place.
