The Subaru CVT has been around for a while and has become a common visitor for shops. There are several reasons for this but there are three I’d like to cover here: Differential failure, the converter and the converter clutch solenoid.
Look for Jatco CVTs in Nissan, Dodge, Jeep, and other vehicles. These CVTs aren’t going anywhere, but the stepper motor is going away on the newer CVTs. The majority of the CVTs in shops today still have stepper motors.
The Jatco JF017E transmission has been out for a while and many shops are already enjoying the extra profits that CVT rebuilds are bringing in.
Information on the Subaru Generation 2 CVT valve body is hard to find because it isn’t published. Subaru doesn’t make it available because they sell the valve body; not the individual components. If you need a solenoid or find a worn-out valve, there’s no fix available from the manufacturer besides replacing the entire valve body.
Some of the common issues with this transmission are pressure and performance codes, and surging and flaring as the transmission goes from low to high range.
You can rebuild this transmission and make good money doing it. There are some basic areas to cover to make a quality repair along with performing the computer relearn.

Anyone who has witnessed the antics of the Subaru Justy CVT no doubt was scratching their head with wonder and amazement at the gall of the Subaru engineering department to even suggest putting another CVT unit on the road!
