Don’t get me started on the tech illiterate. I’m not trying to sound insensitive but the worst offenders are the senior citizens. The supermarket chain I work for used to give out tokens at the register that could be redeemed for future discounts on select items throughout the store. They had the silver, red, blue and gold coins. By the time I started working there they were down to the gold coins. When they eliminated the coins for an app based promotion system the ones that complained the loudest were the senior citizens. They don’t use smartphones or the internet. Many still have the rotary phone that has been there since Ma’ Bell was still intact. There is an old lady on my dog walking route who is very frail and the paperboy just tosses the newspaper at the end of the driveway. I bring her newspaper to the front door so she doesn’t have to go retrieve it.
And for the ones who do have smartphones I spend a lot of time at my cash register doing tech support so they can get their promotions. iPhones are easy (since I have one), Android is a PITA since there are different variants from the different phone brands. We have an in-store iPad (mounted on a stand) for those who don’t have a smartphone or internet access.
My late mother (boomer generation) could operate tech somewhat (she was proficient at her iPhone) but when it came to payment terminal and other on the go tech she would jokingly say “it always helps to bring a millennial with you”.
