I was called (by letter) for real jury duty a few months back. It was the first time since I retired about 11 years ago and was therefore kind of interested in actually getting on a case. You had to check in every night for a week to see whether you were required to show up the next morning but every night I was not required to show up and after one week my required check in period was up and I was therefore excused of the obligation. It’s common knowledge that lawyers do not want lawyers on juries, so even though I may have been given the chance the likelihood that I as an inactive member of the California State Bar would have actually gotten on a jury was relatively remote.
