So, I visited the xfinity website....

One thing I noticed, it seems to be faster than in the past when it was gawd-awful slow. But it is still not what I would call a responsive website. Aside from that … I tried to lower my Internet service speed rate from 400 to 200, in order to save some money. The website showed me the reduction in my bill when I tried to “check out.” But it would not allow me to “check out.” No explanation was given. So, I am left with the opinion that the Comcast website is programmed to deny customers who want to reduce their monthly bills. Why else would it deny me from accepting the offer the website gave me?

Did the message I replied to mention that it only applied to cable operators? This discussion is about what streaming vendors could do since they are not required to carry all the locals.

lesmikesell It has nothing to do with push costs on customers. They made them below the line fees so they could advertise a lower price, then when the customer got the bill they got bill shock. If anything it was about pulling the wool over the customers eyes so they could make a quick buck at the customers expense. Instead of being truthful about what the price of the service actually was.

I have always been told the total to expect before accepting - or saw the total on the web site. That should not have surprised anyone. The surprise comes when they raise the fees since it was only in the fine print that it said that was allowed. But I think when that first started happening people were allowed out of their contracts if they wanted to cancel. Streaming services just raise their price every month if they want with no obligation to you at all.

Yes, but that cuts both ways. You don’t know what you will have to pay the next few months and they routinely raise prices at faster rates than Xfinity bumps fees. Yeah you ‘can’ decide not to watch the next episode in a series you follow or the next big sports event because the price went up, but you probably won’t.

lesmikesell I mean we cut cable in 2019 and streaming bumps the price about as often as Xfinity did. Streaming is still cheaper if you dont need Live TV, which we dont.

I currently have Prime and Hulu, it’s about $20 a month. Xfinity has 10+ channels for $45.25 a month. So streaming is cheaper in my case. Plus we get Live TV over the air. On top of the free streaming services we use. When we gave up cable TV in 2019, about $40 was equipment fees, as we had 5 TV’s. Not to mention we had SD only as HD was an extra charge.

Streaming is only more expensive if you dont do it right. As in sub to every service that exists.

I went to the Xfinity website this morning and it appears to be updated / revamped. Interestingly, Xfinity Prepaid internet is now an option - this after I remember reading it was going to be discontinued after Now was released last year. Guess they changed their mind. Xfinity and Now are listed at the top of my page for options, and in the normal tiers the 150Mbps speed tier is back (after being deleted awhile back).

smilingbob 150Mbps tier is still gone for me. I also noticed there is now no real difference between internet essentials 100Mbps and NOW 100Mbps. Same price, same upload speed, same unlimited data. The only difference is NOW sends you a gateway.

badtlc4 Kind of interesting, as Now100 shows 20Mbps upload and Essentials shows only 10Mbps in my area. And Essentials is supposed to send out an XB3 Gateway same as Now but maybe it’s region dependent.

Essentials 75 Mbps is 10 Mbps upload, Essentials Plus 100 Mbps is 20 Mbps upload. Should be the same in all regions.

Has anybody else noticed Comcast locking down there Website? Keeping you from price searching, and seeing what plans, and tiers are available at addresses other than your own address? I noticed it on there plan builder page, ever since they started offering there 5 year price lock plans. It will only let me pull up plans for my address only, if I sign in. Also there Xfinity Broadband Nutrition Labels page, won’t display any info for post paid internet plans, unless I use a VPN.

The website seems to serve Comcast, and not Comcast customers.
