In another year or two I wnt to build a new system, non gaming Audio/video work station. I have fiber. What NIC and optical network gear do you rec?

I have the least issues with Intel nics as far as broad compatibility goes. Emulex or Mellanox for server stuff. For switching.. take a look at Mikrotik SFP+ switches if low cost is a factor. If you're a homelab addict like me you can find enterprise gear (Cisco, Brocade, etc) for really cheap. Enterprise gear runs hot and loud though.

I have Marvell AQC107-based NICs in two Minisforum MS-01s because the onboard Intel X710 NICs suck hard on the MS-01. Intel X550 NICs have been solid on older HPE and ASRock servers, as well as an 82599 in a homebuilt ASRock desktop PC.

I have seveal AQC 10GB-Multi-Gig Nics I use. They work in Linux.

X550 have been great for 10GbaseT. For SFP I have an x710, had to flash a firmware upgrade then unlock it to use any SFP, been solid as well. Got burned by some Qlogic/Broadcom a while ago, came back to Intel. At the office for workstations we use the ATTO Fast frame cards.
