I worked at France Telecom (Orange Business Services) and it’s a fact that governments, (China etc) want a back door into the routers in order to have better control over the population. All router logs need to be kept for years "in case"authorites should it deem it necessary to review them for evidence of activities not in the interest of the current governing officials.
