How many years now???

Before W7 became “Non-Supported”, I had a decision to make… I had 3x systems that used W7-64 that had hardware devices that drivers would NOT be made available for later Windows… .or I had Software on them that also would not be upgraded…. Without a re-purchase of the entire software package and it’s $$ Plug-ins!

At that time, a Re-purchase of Software and Hardware would also necessitate a newer CPU as well! The total would be many thousands of $$$!!
System as it was at W7-64, was fully working and entirely stable… And did everything I needed to do quickly and efficiently!

I decided, to instead invest in a better Router with Firewall and Packet Sniffer…. Rather than re-purchasing newer system, hardware, and Software — Just so I could say my Windows was up to date !! Savings of $$$$!!

It was a gamble… Would it work?

Today I can say It has worked…. 1 of the 3x W7-64 systems are online daily still… NO ISSUES….

Yes! We are now facing the same thing…. With Wife’s W10 PRO system! Microsoft has informed us her system is “NOT WORTHY” to run W11!
There is no Hardware that can’t update, and only software is MS HOME OFFICE 2016.

Concern re-visited…. But, we must take into consideration how things worked out for W7-64 Systems???

Wife’s W10 PRO system is: “Not Worthy” to run W11…. OK, Microsoft doesn’t want us…..

We’ll continue to invest in our Router, Firewall, and Packet Sniffer, and we’ll see what happens!

I started the is anyone planning on running Win10 past EOL thread. In the past I was always look forward to the latest and greatest. After drinking the Windows Kool-Aid in the 90’s I remember standing in line at CompUSA at midnight for Win95 or 98 release but that ship sailed.

My wife’s Win10 32bit system isn’t going anywhere, it does everything she needs it to do. For her to upgrade that would mean new hardware and transferring files and programs, that’s total BS and that’s not happening. If either one of our systems crash will do it then, we have two home-built NAS systems running so our data is only as old as the last backup.

I’m running Win10 Pro x64 and on the fence about the Rufus Win11 method. Either way we’ll be running the 3rd party updates when the time come. As far as the router we moved to pfsense about 5 years ago and currently testing the 2.8.0-BETA and no issues.

JanJ My mom’s machine is in the same boat. Im just going to try the Rufu bypass method. She understands that there is a chance she might have to buy a new machine in the future. I figured we would buy a new machine if problems happen with her current one.

We briefly discussed that: W11 hack, with Wife… but since her W10 Pro is quite fast, probably as fast as new computer, and she has no impending need for any W11 software…… and our “Experiment” with W7-64 is working……. Why purchase a new system? I actually don’t need another extra laptop, nor it’s SSD. If it dies, and can’t be fixed, Then: sure, New System! But now — upgrade Just For Microsoft’s sake?

That conversation went back & forth for an hour. No 100% Solution in either direction, but a 90% answer did turn up! So we decided on: “Do Nothing, Like we did on W7-64”

My 13 year old system (that I upgraded from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro) will not support Windows 11. So, I’m just going to keep running the system as is. I guess the deciding factor to getting a new PC would be how much of the current applications I use just quit working in Windows 10 and only support Windows 11.

So… yeah.

Im more doing it for the OS security updates. She does banking and stuff on it, and would feel better if it was still “Supported” for security updates. Otherwise she would probably just have stuck with Windows 10, at least until stuff stopped working, but thats likely going to be years.

Gonna attempt to replace Moms PC as soon as possible–Purchased in June 2011–nothing can upgrade to support 11 lol

Gaming Laptop guess will try for closer to Windows 10 end date to find a replacement, or invest in a Mini PC that can be Backup SecondLife Game Machine, and if have to change out current Laptop desk to one that will support Monitor, keyboard, mouse, and spot for the Little Mini PC

Either way i’ll get it sorted somehow as soon as can

My system is about 11 years old and I also haven’t done a fresh install since setting up Windows 7 about 15 years ago, just upgrading from 7 to 10 and then to 11 after it came out almost four years ago. I haven’t had a single app that doesn’t continue to run, no matter whether it was installed last week or 15 years ago. While your system may not technically support 11 I imagine that you are aware of the no-brainer Rufus bypass that will enable you to bypass Microsoft’s artificially imposed restrictions and get 11 on your system. There are virtually no real hardware requirement differences between 10 and 11, so if your system will run 10 it will run 11. Why waste your hard-earned money so Microsoft can make another 11 license fee that they won’t even be aware that they collected on a new system? Get Rufus here and the latest Windows 11 release here.

If you want a new system at a super bargain price look on Amazon’s manufacturers refurbished systems the prices are very reasonable

I’ve bought two refurbs directly from Dell.

But the problem with one of them is crappy battery life—same problem as with many refurbished cell phones.

Thank you! That is apparently only with CPUs quite a way back. Mine is an Intel 4th generation i7-4790 @ 3.6GHz [2014 release date] and it passed support. @MarkRH’s may or may not. How to tell: Also CPU-Z can be used to check for SSE4.2 support.

i just put linux on my older stuff. works fine. firefox opens does what i need. steamdeck of course runs linux, gaming pc windows + linux.
