B.O.E. = County Board of Elections. Rather than riders. We have school, fire and emergency services districts within states and counties. We have voting precincts for in person voting, but the county B.O.E. office is open for early and election day casting of ballots. We like to go there instead of mail-in or local voting as an excuse to eat out and do some quick grocery shopping.
Our county has a health services board that provides services like indigent care, elderly care, social advocacy, testing, vaccinations etc.
Our fire and emergency services are funded through local property, taxes, as are the above mentioned health services.
The county B.O.E. office handles ballot delivery and counting. They also provide voting results. I usually ask them for a CSV file of issue results by voting precincts so I can see which precincts voted for each issue or candidate. They donât charge for that, they just email the file to me.
Complicated, eh? Yep. People in poorer rural areas who canât afford more property taxes on their homes usually vote against them, so such services are limited to volunteers and money raised via fund raisers.
