namaste Rubes and their money are easily parted.
Not your money, not your problem. Although I haven’t paid a dime for Plex the last 8, maybe 10 years I’ve been running it. I used burned disks, thumb drives, DLNA, XBMC/Kodi, UMS, and Serviio before that. I’ve dabbled with Jellyfin and Emby, but had no compelling reasons to leave Plex. This might be the reason, but remote streaming on Plex is still working for me free of charge.
“brew install jellyfin” or “brew install emby”, point it at my video library, and some other configuration should have me up and running in a few minutes. Messaging my family to download a new client app to their Roku enabled TVs would be the longest part. End it with a “brew uninstall plex”
Some run their video library from a Google Drive and a Mac only app (can’t remember the specific app), but why would I when most of my Plex use is at home on non-Mac devices, and it’s setup to work even if it loses its internet connection unlike a Google Drive connection.
