Double notifications and sometimes cleared notifications reappear

Any way to configure the site to not show double notifications when its the same post? Sometimes this list gets really long. Yesterday it was in the high 20’s and really only a handful of threads were updated.

Curious if its just me. Sometimes I swear I mark them as read but they come back. Maybe not every time but I’m almost positive this is happening. I’m trying to find a pattern. It shows 1 notification right now on the web, and on my phone it also shows a 1…. something I read already (so really they both should show 0). At least at the moment the phone and the PC are the same.

I’ve noticed the exact same thing.

I’m so fed up with all the hassles of everyday life in general right now, I didn’t bother saying anything. 🙂

The site will show separate notifications for each event such as mention and discussion reply. This isn’t something we can suppress even though it is often that one post will trigger multiple notifications.

Notifications are triggered by posting a reply.
Are they triggered again if that reply is edited and posted again?
Or if the first posted reply is deleted, and then reposted ( perhaps replaced) ?
How would showing only one notification indicate multiple responses?

Somewhat-Reticent It is possible for there to be multiple notifications regarding a single post.

I used to get double notifications, but that was before I changed some settings and got rid of some check marks on the “settings” page.

“Someone posts in a discussion I’m following” is the only notification I really need to stay on top of threads.

Turning on the setting: “Notify about every new post instead of only the last in a discussion” will cause a lot of notifications.
I also got rid of the checkmark for: “Someone replies to one of my posts”

Long story short: look at the settings page.

Looking at the full “after” list, you might want to add a checkmark for “Someone posts in a private discussion I’m a recipient of” to stay on top of any private discussions you are in.

Otherwise, looks good.

Thanks, great advice! I only have (1) notification for your reply instead of a doubled up notification. Going in, it cleaned them up a ton!

I think my problem is now solved. I’ll know more as time goes on and I continue to use the forum.
