Just a heads up, Telus is using the customer database from Start.ca in order to push Telus mobile phone services. So much for the hopes the company would expand in the area, put in fibre and compete against Bell & Rogers. No why would they bother, it’s risky, and as they have cell network already they can just push their mobile services on to the customer base they just bought.
The calls originate overseas as evident by call quality and artifacts, the caller ID number however is Telus toll free number (833 896-0429) so at least they aren’t acting like complete scammers. Based on the probing and pressure attempts by the CSR I suspect that they are incentivized to sign people up (or at least just not fired because there is no shortage of overseas call centers looking for contracts). The deals were unremarkable IMHO, being similar to other mobile company offerings so again we see the non-competitive nature of telecom in Canada despite the CRTCs ever rosy view that all is well and the consumer has choices. To Paraphrase Monty Python, you can have “spam, spam, spam or spam.”
It does beg the question as to when they will kill off start.ca entirely and either fold current customers into existing Telus products or drop offering them entirely.
