Fans of The Rocky Horror Picture Show will be ready to do the time warp again with the newly restored film.

The beloved cult-classic movie has been newly restored and remastered in 4K Ultra HD to mark the 50th anniversary of its initial release. The 10-month project was overseen by the Walt Disney Studios Restoration team ahead of theatrical events and a Blu-ray release to be announced later in the year, with the version set to include a new anniversary logo for the film.

This restoration of The Rocky Horror Picture Show involved a digital scan and preservation process to ensure the clarity of each frame. Additionally, the version includes a newly mixed Dolby Atmos audio track, with the original mono audio also being fully restored for fans who want to hear the classic soundtrack as it originally premiered upon its domestic release on Sept. 25, 1975. ….

When my son was in HS in the late 80’s, when they did the school musical , they would do the “time warp” to get pumped up for the show. I, of course, said what’s the “time warp”. I’m still not quite sure. 🙂 I never saw RHPS.

Screw this 4K restoration of the movie. Nothing is better than having attended the in-theater live experience with attired participants with squirt guns, toilet paper and more. Or even better attending the Rocky Horror Show live stage presentation.
It cost 1.4 million dollars and 2 months to make the movie. I dare anyone to do that now and make $340,000,000.

My best friend was visiting me in Atlanta back in 1979 and I took him to see the midnight showing. For some reason it was a very slow night and we were virtually the only ones there. The movie definitely sucks without the audience participation and he could not understand my enthusiasm for the show.

I remember renting this for the first time when I was a teen hoping to see some boobs (there were lips on the cover, before the internet you had to do what you had to do 😃 ). It quickly became one of my favorite movies, it’s so fun and the music is great. I got all my friends into it and we still love it 35 years later.

An endearing story…

Tim Curry made a surprise appearance at a 50th anniversary screening of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” over the weekend at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles as part of the long-running Cinespia screening series, where love from an adoring, multigenerational audience came in the form of several standing ovations.

I was wondering if someone could enlighten me as to what made this movie all the rage?

I remember when it came out and the songs were plaid ad nauseum everywhere you went and everyone was quoting the show. I ended up catching it on the movie channel (cause back in that day there was just one) and I thought it was terrible, aside from having a number of catchy tunes.

urbanriot It is the whole audience participation, the party like atmosphere that emulates the Annual Transylvanian Convention “Over at the Frankenstein Place”, it was some place to go on a Friday night for a midnight show especially if you were high. I had a friend that had never experienced it come visit me in Atlanta back in 1979. For some reason that I couldn’t fathom, that night there were very few people at the show. It was an absolutely terrible movie to watch without all the pageantry. He could not understand why I had seen it over 70 times. You really have to attend a showing where there are many participants to appreciate its appeal.

broknsymetry thanks, I think you did a pretty good job explaining it to me. I watched it with a few people and the women really enjoyed it but I didn’t ‘get it’.
