Hockey Supremacy in bankruptcy protection

Hockey Supremacy, Canada’s largest online hockey retailer, has filed for bankruptcy with $5.7 million in liabilities and $50,000 in assets. The company, which was founded in 2010 and had an estimated annual revenue of $5.1 million.

I have never heard of them yet the story claims they are the largest?

Donoreo Awful company name, bit of a hole the fell into, but I have never heard of them either.

Perhaps their market was more Quebec region or team level retail. Locally my city has always had a couple of good indy sports stores with all sorts of offerings but having an OHL team might help with that as well as being the largest city in the area and thus a hub for local hockey events/games. A new shop more of a chain retail model has also opened up in the last year, Hockey Life opened a store in the city.

Perhaps the pandemic allowed them to overgrow and then wither away with dropping sales as people returned to normalcy.

Doesn’t surprise me. Hockey is a very expensive sport to play, less and less people can afford it themselves or for their kids. The taboo subject of changing demographics is also at play.

I asked around some of the hockey parents here at work - the only one that knew about them was a guy who’s wife is an assistant coach on a junior league - they had used them to buy gear for the team regularly. I got the feeling maybe they weren’t necessarily big in supplying to individuals, but maybe more popular for team group purchases and affiliate type programs. px_eliezer_ thehockeyshop.com and prohockeylife.com are two I know of - I’ve personally only ever used thehockeyshop.com to buy skates and sticks and hockey tape.

I’ve bought a lot of hockey stuff, but I’ve never heard of Hockey Supremacy.

But, I am right at the border, so I have access to US outlets like Hockey Monkey, Ice Warehouse, and Pure Hockey.

The only places I’ve bought online in Canada are HockeyStickMan and Pro Hockey Life (but that one was only ship to store).

[deleted] Well for starters as a Quebec based company the name is oddly English. Hockey Supreme seems more marketable, the french word even comes with a circumflex which is definitely a french language artifact. They could have made it look like a hockey stick, in all it seems like a lost opportunity for them.
