9 yr old printer died!

Brother MFC-J5920DW paper eject motor died.
It was a workhorse. Contacted Support and they confirmed, and because of contact. Coupon for $$ off & free shipping.

Bought a MFC-J6555DW. Arrived today. Installed on W7-64, W10 PRO, & 2x iPhones: 14+ & 15. Have 2 other W7-64 to do, but they are low priority.
Printer great, far faster. But: Scanner far slower. Email into support on that.
In case others have seen this, how to speed up scanning? About 1 minute lapses between scan stop and scanned image appears ?????

1) That printer first came out exactly 3 years ago, So you should update the firmware if you have not already done so.

2) The Brother company has advice on slow scanning.

3) You might want to try some other scanning software rather than Brother’s.

4) Just curious, did you uninstall the old printer as a device on your system, before installing the new printer?? Might be conflicts (eg IP address conflict).

5) Likewise, is the new machine designated as your Default printer and Default scanner?

You’re mainly seeking help for your new printer, not mourning the old one.

What are the respective resolutions, both SW and HW? Scanning and processing at higher resolutions *may* take longer, depending on the available resources.

Yes, firmware was updated, and old software uninstalled & reboot before new software install. Everything at printer, software, W7 & 10 PRO is current.

Like 4-5 times or even more. That link on slow printing is garbage. I’ve already tried that. Furthermore prior printer had a prescan where you could change settings and scan size. No such options now. This is deal breaking! Sure print is fantastic! That proves software is working. Scanning is DISMALLY SLOW. BROKEN, UN-ACCEPTABLE
As much as I like Brother printers, this is ridiculous

Update.
Installed brother suite on an old core 2 laptop with W7-64.

Scanning here works fine! Just as fast as before!!

Going to compare installs and program settings.
So: on Same Printer:
W10 PRO i7 3.4 GHz. Laptop. Slow scan from start to display. Approx 1 minute After scan motor finishes.
W7-64 i7 2.6 GHz. Laptop. Slow scan from start to display. Approx 1 minute After scan motor finishes.
W-64 Core 2-2.4 GHz. Laptop. Normal scan from start to display. Approx 8-10 seconds, in total!!
Today I’ll install it on Old Supermicro server: W7-64 Dual Quad Xeons 2.6 GHz and see what happens.

It CAN SCAN FAST!

Ok! On the Supermicro server W7-64 with dual quad Xeons it scans fine!!
Un-installed and reinstalled on other W7 system where it did not scan fast. Reinstalled , and same delayed scan operation!
Going to call Brother!

Spoke with 3x different Brother Support folks. We verified it’s not in Firewall on computers, but after that they don’t know.
I found it!!! It’s setting in the Brother printer…. It depends on the network card you have in system on computer that’s connecting….. That’s why Older Systems did not have a delay from Scan to Screen Display…..!!!!

IF Printer Network settings have IPv6 ON: AND: Your LAN is IPv4, AND, the network card SUPPORTS IPv6: THEN you get the 1- 1.5 min delay on Scan to screen Display! WINDOWS OR IOS!

IF Printer Network settings have IPv6 ON: AND: Your LAN is IPv4, AND, the network card DOE NOT SUPPORT IPv6: THEN you get a Scan to screen Display IMMEDIATELY! WINDOWS (ASSUME IOS TOO)!

IF YOU TURN OFF IPv6, AND: Your LAN is IPv4, THEN you get a Scan to screen Display IMMEDIATELY! WINDOWS OR IOS!

Brother default Network config turns on IPV6….. THAT is causing the delay on SCAN to Screen Display of the scan!!!

If your LAN is IPv4: IN BROTHER PRINTER, NO MATTER IF DHCP OR STATIC IP….. TURN OFF IPV6!

That fixes the 1 minute (or more) delay in displaying scanned image!!!

I’m kind of confused that since I set an IPv4 Static IP, that system would/should have turned off IPv6, as a precautionary action for their own Apps???? I guess not! (Machine NOT Smarter than Operator!)

I have a Brother MFC-L6800DW AIO printer and it’s a tank. I really like brother printers. For many years I’ve used HP InkJet printers until I couldn’t take their shenanigans anymore. If the Brother MFC-L6800DW stopped printing I’d still be tempted to keep it around just for the scanning. A very nice bit of kit indeed.
