InternetJeff The OP doesn’t have much experience in radio, it appears. I do some work in local radio and TV. Programming is driven by advertising, yes. But that is not the only factor. It is also driven by audience surveys (yes, that’s still a thing) as well as local demographics.
We have a new radio station brand here (same station, same frequency, same studio but a new brand flag). It went from Bounce radio to Zoomer Radio. The music changed to reflect the older demographic of the community and to compete with a local AM station that has a hard lock on the 50+ demographic. Both have real live, local on-air announcers in the 6-10 morning slot and the 2-6 afternoon slot. News is live in the daytime. At night it is programmed music with station breaks and all automatic, but not AI. I have walked past the studios during the day, outside of drive time, and there is no one there. It’s all run by computers and very expensive software. Station breaks are all recorded. But no AI in this seven station (AM and FM) market.
