Advice For a New Cord Cutter

I still have traditional pay-TV (Comcast), along with a number of Roku streaming devices.

If I were to totally cut the cord, I would start out with DirecTV via Internet with the AT&T C71KW-400 Gemini “Osprey” I purchased a while ago. It provides the most “cable-like” experience.

telcodad Do you need Live TV? Because Live TV service tend to go up much like Cable TV, dont get me wrong Streaming as a whole has been getting more expensive, but the same issues the cable providers have ran in to are causing Live TV streaming services to raise prices as quick. Another option for Live TV is OTA. But thats going to depend on where you live and if you get a good signal. With the potential Sun setting of ATSC 1.0 it’s hard to say what the future of OTA TV is going to be.

If you only care about on demand content, then do what I do. Sub to like 2 services at once, watch the content you want. Then when you run out of stuff to watch, cancel, sub to another service. I believe IMDB has list of what content many service have. I check WiKipeida, to see what original content these services have. I just roll thru the services thru out the year. Thats how you cut the cord and save money.

urbanriot I get 50 with one of those shitty flat indoor antennas. Roof mounted is not practical for us due to cost. Also with the potential of ATSC 1.0 being phased out, I might not be using OTA if that happens.

I cut the cord about five years ago now and don’t miss it at all. I have an antenna that gets about 40 channels and I use a 4th Gen Tablo to record and it has a guide built in. They just updated it a few months ago and it includes 120 FAST channels that show up in the guide just like an antenna channel does and some of those can also be recorded as well. We also have Amazon Prime and Max since AT&T is my internet provider and it’s included. Throw in YouTube (not the pay tv version) and I have more than I can watch! Pay TV had just gotten too expensive to never have anything worth watching anyway.
