How much of DSLReports is in the Wayback Machine?
Can it be assembled into a cohesive archive version?

Somewhat-Reticent The best you can do is download the latest snapshot of every page and put them together to make a copy of the site. Of course this doesn't include the private sections or the staff sections. Those are lost to time.😥

Heat84 I own a website but not a forum. I think you are talking about more work than it is worth, and there are legal limitations, that site was owned by someone and the site had it's copyright I should think.

There must be some way to download every page with a DSLR URL from The Wayback Machine without having to search for them individually.

I doubt that a copyright exists for the website. I tried to search for one but couldn't find one.

In order for the owners of DSLreports to sue for copyright infringement, they would have to file a copyright notice.

Do I have to register with your office to be protected?
No. In general, registration is voluntary. Copyright exists from the moment the work is created. You will have to register, however, if you wish to bring a lawsuit for infringement of a U.S. work. See Circular 1, Copyright Basics, section “Copyright Registration.”

I don't think the owners are in a position to file a copyright infringement case. Now if the website was seized then it's possible someone else could but hard to say what would happen. Plus normally they will send a warning before filing a lawsuit for that company or person to take down what doesn't belong to them.

Here’s a pointer for searching the WayBackMachine for DSLreports content.

To find a forum index page try:
www.dslreports.com/forums/all at the WayBackMachine
(optional) and follow the breadcrumbs to the category you care about:
www.dslreports.com/forum/23
and/or to find a forum you care about:
www.dslreports.com/forum/canbroadband

If you have a clue about the date a topic was being discussed, you can pretty quickly find that topic on the forum pages. So, knowing the date Telus bought out Start from news articles, I found this about the Telus takeover pretty quick.

Also, DSLreports RSS feed items are archived at www.rssing.com. That helped me with a couple of links, but not sure how to best leverage their content yet.

I’m still kicking myself for not archiving the site myself before it shutdown. I was in denial that it was gonna shutdown.

I was referring to it being archived independent of the Wayback Machine. And yes, everything (except the ISP direct support forums).

The WayBack Machine is missing later pages on most threads. A lot of the most interesting technical/policy related stuff is buried deep in those discussions.

What are you referring to? And wouldn’t it depend what kind of account the archiver used to access the site? A staff account would be able to archive everything, wouldn’t it?
