Waze on a new iPhone won’t work

iPhone 16 Pro, OS 18.2.1

I got a new iPhone And now Waze does not want to work. Sometimes it will say “Using off-line maps”, other times it will say “ something went wrong, couldn’t calculate the route.” It looks as if it’s not having Internet access. On my iPhone it has all the typical permissions that it always needed. However, it’s simply won’t give me a viable route. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you.

R2-again I’d get the message on my iPhone 12 Pro when I was leaving the house or leaving work and the phone was jumping back and forth between wifi and cell. I recently got a 16 Pro, but don’t think I’ve used Waze on it yet. Is it doing it all the time for you?

R2-again On my iPhone it has all the typical permissions that it always needed.

Location services should be “while using”, and the cellular data switch should be on.

Have you tired to delete the app and download it again?

Well, I’m reluctant to do that because of all the stored addresses in the memory! I know that’s probably what I’m gonna end up doing, but I love to find a solution that doesn’t involve me entering every single thing back in!

Yes, unfortunately it’s all the time. No matter what part of the city I’m in. I could see it occurring because of bad connections, but the rest of my phone works perfectly well on a 5G network.

I believe there is an option to offload an app and keep the data.. However, I can't say if that will fix it for you.

Does GPS work in other apps or just Wave?

I know it's kind of useless, but to insert a possibility here, I just got an iPhone 16 Pro, migrated everything from my 13 Pro and everything, including Waze, is working just fine.

Since Google acquired Waze I've been watching Apple Maps to mature enough to replace it. At the least I'd rather have the company less reliant on selling my data have my tracking than Google. Today I've found Maps to be better on directions and routing than Waze. But, Waze is still better for crowd sourcing alerts (including the annoying potholes and vehicle on the side of the road alerts). So your mileage may vary.

Not that that helps you in any way to solve your Waze problem.

Sorry for the long delay. I kept trying to figure this out. In the end, I bit the bullet and deleted the app off my iPhone worried I would lose all of my previous addresses. I reinstalled it and of course initially I did not have my previous addresses in there, but it did say a comment before I deleted it that the information was saved on the iCloud. Now it is working as expected, and my addresses are back in there – so no harm no foul with deleting the program and reinstalling. Not sure why it wasn’t working, but I’m back up now and I’m very happy. Thank you everybody for any suggestions.
