While cars are not fully comparable to airplanes, I’ve seen more than once that instead of running away, startled animals will run into danger and the path of an oncoming car. Once there was a deer that jumped right in front of my OJ Bronco [which has a very substantial and solid front bumper], but there were many smaller animals such as rabbits, dogs, squirrels that did a similar thing, and one relatively large bird that took off from the road side but flew in the opposite direction.
