[Rant] iPad cases with pencil holders

Its nearly impossible to find a rugged case with a stand for an Air or Pro that does NOT have a pencil holder. They almost always make the entire footprint of the case BIGGER to accommodate the pencil, or some kind of external clips.

I’m curious how many people actually buy/use an iPad Pencil on a regular basis. I was given one for my old iPad Pro, and I never used it. I’m not an artsy person and I found it really weird to take notes.

Used an iPad for years, never used a pencil. I agree with your dislike of the pencil holder. I got a new iPad Pro last year, and I bought the Apple Smart Folio for iPad Pro 12.9-inch (5th generation) - Black. I love it, and it has many adjustments for the angle to prop up the iPad!

I have an iPad Pro 12.4 inch. I also have the Apple Pencil. I do use it off and on. The case I have does have a pencil holder.

I have also used a bluetooth keyboard and mouse with the iPad as well. So I want to get a case later on that has the keyboard and touch pad for it. I would love to get the one that Apple Makes for it but its too expensive for me.

Yeah, I agree that it can be difficult to find an iPad Pro case that doesn’t cater to Apple Pencil users.

I have a 12.9″ iPad Pro (2018) model since its release. I used a Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro Series case with it for ₆ years or so and it had no provisions for the Apple Pencil. IMO a case is structurally compromised if it has to account for Pencil wireless charging sort of like the new iPhone photo button / slider thing.

I just bought a new 13″ M4 iPad Pro and went for yet another Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro case since it performed so well for so long. Unfortunately I couldn’t find a model that doesn’t have an Apple Pencil so there is this big empty space in the case,…..almost like a handle,……like for a child’s tablet,….

Octavean That’s exactly the same case I have for my 2017 iPad Pro, and i’m pissed off its not available for anything newer in the exact same form.

I’ve got three Apple Pencils sitting on my desk, looks like a v1, v2, and a Pro. They’re used for testing purposes, and so I don’t use them for anything else. None of the various iPads also sitting on my desk have cases on them so cannot really comment. I can see how it would be a pain if cases came with space for a pencil but you didn’t have a need for that.

Octavean I have a Supcase on my iPad Gen 8 this very second. It’s all I have ever used for Apple and Android. Great Brand.

[deleted] I have used an iPad for 15 years and have always used a DODOcase. They use an elastic loop for any iPencil, which does not affect their footprint. They also have slipcases with an exterior pocket for an iPencil. I’m hard on my cases, so I replace them every couple of years.

Dodocases are awesome. Either their leather slipcases which I love, or the book cases.

Look into Pitaka cases for durability, ease of use, and no dedicated Pencil slot.

Just realized a few days ago that the iPad (regular, not Pro) case I’ve been using since January 2022 has a pen holder. Right next on the left of the keyboard. I scare myself sometimes.
