px_eliezer_ Not to bring politics into the discussion, but in general the current US administration is spending a lot of time and effort dismantling public health in general. CDC has stopped reporting waste water tracking of disease spread, much of the department headcount that used to work with state health departments have been entirely eliminated, they are in the midst of culling food inspection agencies and other health safety related departments, so at the end of the day the net result is going to be a lot of diseases, outbreaks, even epidemics are going to go entirely unseen and unreported by a lot of people in charge sticking their head in the sand shouting “if I don’t know it’s happening, it’s not happening!” - Measles, MPox, and Bird Flu are likely going to be the 3 big ones over the next year or two that the true extent and impact may well go unknown and unseen other than second hand reporting by hospitals and local/regional health agencies that are still functional and operating, don’t expect to see coordinated responses or accurate information from the feds.
Unfortunately Canada is still next door - travel may be down 50-70% but there’s still a lot of required work travel, trade shows, and other things taking people back and forth across the borders - so cases from here will go there, and cases from there will go here… We should continue to maintain pretty good visibility on this side at least at provincial health levels - but that won’t help those of you south of the border much, other than as in this thread saying “here’s some places you might want to be careful, especially if you’re unvaxxed for measles”
