At what price point?

For a backup phone I'd like, I'm seeing the Pixel 4a5g for 75 used. I broke mine trying to fix it (my first ever screwup). I've been waiting for digitiazr/screen assemblies to get cheap to repair it.

Is 75 bucks to have a backup phone as old as the 4a5g worth it?

Might want to be careful with the 4a; last I was looking around, I found some reports about the final official update really fouling up the phones, causing absurdly fast battery drain and making it hard to keep charged and operating, effectively soft-bricking in extreme cases.

That said, if there's a healthy enough community of custom roms for it, it would be worth a shot.

Hmm...was that the 4a or the 4a with 5G? Similar names, quite different phones, and I never heard the 5G model being affected by the updates.

OP, have you considered spending a little extra to get extra? You could probably find a used Pixel 6 or 7 on Swappa or eBay (auctions?) for ~$150-180. That's more than $75, but you're getting better phones in pretty much every way that have a good few years of software support in them.
