You do realize we finished building the Trans-Mountain pipeline right?
The reason so much of our oil has been sold south of the border is because they haven’t historically had ways to sell it anywhere else. That’s why an eastern link pipeline has become an election issue. But we already have a pipeline that can take the product to Vancouver, which is a major port. And if we do figure out an east link, then we’ll be better positioned to sell to Europe as well.
And while I don’t want to derail this thread even further, I do have to point out that Manitoba is talking very seriously about developing Churchill into a major port. Premier Kinew specifically said in his announcement about not renewing energy contracts with the US that he intended to ship energy north into Nunavut instead and that they wanted to develop Churchill into a port that could directly export/import with Europe. That means the pipeline we’d need to build to reach Atlantic markets just got a hell of a lot shorter. ( https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/manitoba-kinew-repatriating-hydro-1.7509857 ).
