My issue that I have with most of the small businesses here for Pharmacy’s require all of your scripts to be filled with them. Especially if you are getting a control substance script filled.
One local business used to require all of my mom’s scripts to be filled with them for them to fill her Oxycodone script to be filled. She gets almost all of her maintenance medications filled through OptumRx for no charge to her. However, this pharmacist went too far.
The pharmacist decided that she wanted my mom to get another MRI before she would fill her oxycodone script. She didn’t need another MRI at this point. This pharmacist wanted yearly MRI done.
So I got finally got pissed off at them, took all of my mom’s scripts and transferred them back to OptumRX. I then proceeded to have her Oxycodone filled at Walgreens. Which they filled with no issues. The problem was if I remember we switched due to Walgreens being out of medications. This happened in 2019-2022.
I didn’t even bother to call the pharmacist. I just transferred everything. She was under pain management and other doctors care, there was no need to put her in an MRI machine again.
Meanwhile the Pharmacist called me repeatedly right after I transferred everything and got the scripts filled at Walgreens. She left me a very nasty voicemail. She was saying how she was losing money by helping my mom get her oxycodone filled. I was just thinking to myself that if you’re not happy with way insurance works then maybe just don’t take insurance anymore.
Since that experience that I had with a local business, I haven’t tried the other local businesses. I refuse to give up the insurances mail order company. It’s just cheaper for me to use them.
Take my Duloxetine Dr 60 MG capsules twice a day for example. Once I pay 2000 out of my pocket I am paying a co-pay on everything. However, it will cost me 90.00 at Walgreens to get that filled every three months (90 day supply). However, if I get it from the mail order, it’s only 60.00. Some of the medications are even cheaper than a 2 month supply.
This all kindof becomes mute at this point, because I have already spent 2000 out of pocket already and now the insurance pays for everything 100%.
However, it becomes a hassle to get three different control substances script filled when they are out of stock all of the time. I am willing to try a local pharmacy but not at the price of transferring them all over to them. It’s just too much of a hassle.
